THE CAMEROON NATIONAL OLYMPIC AND SPORTS COMMITTEE (CNOSC) JOINS THE ONE BILLION RISING CAMEROON IN THE PROMOTION OF GENDER EQUALITY AND THE FIGHT AGAINST FEMALE VIOLENCE.
One Billion Rising Cameroon organizes in its 4th edition, a workshop on self defense techniques for women named “ACTION 2020 SELF DEFENSE” aimed at sensitizing and eradicating all forms of violence made on women.
The event shall take place this Saturday 15th February at the esplanade of the CNOSC in Nkol Eton, Yaoundé as from 9am with the following activities; a cultural parade in traditional attire, training on self-defense and talks.
Sports has always been a major tool in the promotion of gender equality and the autonomy of women and young girls. Being at the head of the Olympic movement, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has an enormous responsibility in this domain which is a fundamental principle of the Olympic Charter. In line with this, various programs have been put in place by the IOC in order to avoid any form of discrimination on women, they have been granted equal participation rights during Olympic Games and are progressively given more posts of responsibility in the sports and Olympic movement.
The Olympic Agenda 2020 which is the strategic roadmap for the Olympic Movement reaffirmed the commitment and priority of gender balance. With an emphasis on taking action, reason why the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee supports the actions of the association, One Billion Cameroon which encourages women to take action and defend themselves from violence. Through this initiative, women are called upon to fight for themselves and for their rights.
