The Olympic movement takes its responsibility to protect rights, the health and well-being of athletes is a very important issue. The Medical Commission was initially created to fight against the taking of hard drugs by athletes, but today this is handled by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WDA). The educative mission of the IOC equally contains preventive efforts which aims at informing athletes, both professional and amateurs, on the devastating effects of doping for their health. Another major objective of the commission is to support research of medical sports; biomechanics, sports phycology and nutrition for the preservation of a good health for the athletes.
